Yoshikazu Obatake
Franco-Japanese, I grew up in a family where craftsmanship, creativity and manual work always held an important place. From haute couture and traditional tatami making to shoe design, my family passed on to me a love of meticulous work and skilled craftsmanship. This environment and heritage influenced me deeply, long before I fully became aware of it.
After several years of scientific studies, I felt that something was missing. Perhaps it was the desire to return to disciplines in which things are created by hand, as I had always done during my childhood, or simply the call of a family heritage. This is what led me to watchmaking.
After graduating with a Diplôme des Métiers d’Art and receiving the congratulations of the jury, I continued to develop my skills independently, supported by the invaluable advice of a small number of generous watchmakers.
Over time, this passion led me to develop Memori, a concept particularly close to my heart: offering a new approach to the passage of time through a mechanical watch complication. I gradually gathered the tools and expertise required to bring the project to life while continuing my other activities.
Since 2022, I have devoted myself entirely to Memori. Today, the project lies at the heart of my work and embodies my own vision of watchmaking: an independent and personal approach, deeply concerned with the meaning a mechanical object can carry.
Thank you for taking the time to discover my work. If you would like to learn more or discuss Memori, I would be delighted to hear from you.
